Hand crafting your Floorcloth There are several steps in the making of your floorcloth. 1. First, canvas is cut several inches larger than the final rug size. 2. I then pre-shrink the canvas by sponging on very hot water front and back. I let it dry for a day before proceeding. 3. The rug is measured out and cut. Next, I sew it. 4. I now begin adding the base coats of paint. I paint 6 coats, letting it dry one day in between each coat. 5. The rug is now ready to receive its design. Here are some photos of me stenciling the Mission Border rug. 6. After the rug is entirely painted and stenciled, 5 to 6 coats of urethane are applied, letting the rug dry one day in between each coat.
